What will we see on the tour?

The adventure of this 4-day tour starts in Fez, where our English-speaking driver will be waiting for you at the agreed point, either at the airport or at your hotel, to begin the journey south, entering the wonders of the Middle Atlas.

We will first head towards Ifrane, known as ‘the Moroccan Switzerland’, a unique city in Morocco that surprises for its buildings with sloping roofs, adapted to its humid and snowy climate.

We will continue our route to Ifrane National Park, also called the Monkey Forest, a natural refuge for the Barbary macaque and an example of the biodiversity of the region, where large cedars offer shelter to this cold-adapted species.

Descending from the Middle Atlas, we will cross the Ziz Valley, entering the arid contrast of the pre-desert, until we reach Erfoud, known for its rich fossil deposits.

The highlight of the day is Merzouga, the gateway to the impressive Erg Chebbi dunes. Here, we will exchange our vehicle for camels or 4×4 vehicles to immerse ourselves in the heart of the desert for an unforgettable journey.

At dusk, we will enjoy a starry sky over our tents, offering one of the clearest and starry night views on the planet, followed by a traditional dinner and a night of rest in the camp, enjoying the silence and magic of the desert.

Summary of the day:

  • Meeting with the driver in Fez and departure to the south.
  • Tour of Ifrane and Ifrane National Park.
  • Crossing of the Middle Atlas and the Ziz Valley.
  • Visit to Erfoud and its paleontological treasures.
  • Excursion to the dunes of Erg Chebbi by camel or 4×4.
  • Dinner and overnight in a tented camp in the desert.

The second day of our trip allows us to immerse ourselves even more in the essence of the Merzouga desert. After waking up in the tents and enjoying breakfast at the camp, we will freshen up with a shower, either at the camp itself or at a nearby hotel, depending on what has been previously agreed upon in your travel package.

Our first stop will be in Khamlia, a village known for being home to descendants of former slaves from Sudan. Here, we will witness its rich artistic and musical tradition, with a live performance of ‘gnawa’ music, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Heritage of Humanity for its profound sub-Saharan rhythm and cultural significance.

Afterwards, we will embark on an adrenaline-filled adventure aboard 4×4 vehicles, following a route that is part of the legendary Paris-Dakar Rally. We will visit the mines of Khol and explore the ruins of ancient Berber and French settlements, discovering an exceptional panoramic point that offers a breathtaking view of the vast sea of dunes of Erg Chebbi.

We will also have the unique opportunity to meet a group of desert nomads. Despite being in a process of sedentarization, these nomads maintain many of their ancestral traditions. We will share tea with them, an act of hospitality that reflects the essence of Berber culture.

We will conclude the day by returning to Merzouga, where we will enjoy dinner and rest in a hotel located in the vicinity of the desert.

Summary of the day:

  • Breakfast and shower in the desert tent camp.
  • Visit to Khamlia to enjoy the ‘gnawa’ music and culture.
  • Exciting 4×4 route on the tracks of the Paris-Dakar Rally.
  • Meeting and tea with desert nomads.

The third day begins with the breathtaking sunrise in Erg Chebbi, where the first rays of sun give life to a chromatic spectacle in the desert. After breakfast in this incomparable setting, we will return to Merzouga on the back of our camels, followed by an opportunity to freshen up with a shower, either at the camp or in a local hotel.

We will continue our journey by road to Rissani, a city that stands out for its historic medina and a traditional market full of life and color. Here, the authenticity of the desert is evident in every corner.

We will continue to the Dades Valley, entering an environment of stunning scenery. The Todra Gorges await us with their imposing rock walls that rise up to 200 meters, forming a canyon of unique natural beauty.

The adventure continues along the Route of the Thousand Kasbahs and the Valley of the Roses, a route that takes us through palm groves and Berber fortresses that tell the history of these lands. At the end of the day, the kasbah of Taourirt in Ouarzazate, a Pasha residence that still preserves its splendor and architectural details, awaits us.

If time permits, we will explore the famous film studios of Ouarzazate, where great films such as ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ and ‘Gladiator’ were brought to life.

The day concludes with dinner and a well-deserved rest in a hotel in Ouarzazate, known as the ‘Hollywood of Morocco’.
